Grateful Dead History
Grateful Dead formed as a California quintet in 1965. They became as much a legend as the story from whom they were named. They were one of the most influential and popular bands in American history, mixing folk music, rock and pop, and jazz. As a conduit for a vibrant international counterculture, they would create an unrivalled songbook over the course of 30 years of recording and touring. Never performing the same setlist twice (except for that one), the Dead's musical heritage is vast and rich. It includes both studio recordings as well as live performances. Grateful dead would create an artistic ecosystem of their own that would transform American music, and possibly even America.
